Barbera distinguishes itself with a vibrant cherry flavor when young, setting it apart from the more tannic Nebbiolo. Its naturally low tannins and roundness evolve into a denser sour-cherry note as it matures. Barrel aging introduces wood tannins, complementing the variety’s texture. On the palate, Barbera can exhibit a Merlot-like plumminess, though it resonates more with Mourvèdre in flavor.

Production Notes

Le Gagie Barbera d’Asti is made from 100% Barbera grapes, carefully nurtured in marl limestone-clay soil. The vineyard's south-southeast exposure and manual harvesting contribute to the wine's distinct character. The fermentation process at 28°C with frequent pumping over in the initial days ensures optimal color extraction. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation naturally, aided by the wine's ideal temperature.

Aged for about 12 months in 30hl barrels, the wine further matures for an additional four months in the bottle before being released into the market. This careful aging process enriches the wine's complexity and depth, making it an exceptional choice for pairing.
